What is CBG?

Cannabigerol, most commonly known as CBG, is a chemical compound found in hemp and marijuana plants. It’s a cannabinoid, just as THC, but it is non-psychoactive, similar to CBD.

CBG is considered a building block that other cannabinoids depend on. It is a parent molecule that other cannabinoids synthesize from. It works directly with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain – resulting in enhanced effects of all the cannabinoids absorbed at the time of uptake.

CBG makes up less than 1% of the cannabinoid profile in plants. This makes it difficult to extract high concentrations without the proper resources. CBG products are not common on the market because of this, but it has been deemed to have incredible health benefits.

What are the Benefits of CBG?

Brain Function: CBG has shown to slow the effects of Huntington’s disease. This condition causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain.

Muscle Tension: Cannabigerol has GABA uptake inhibition that is greater than both CBD and THC, which “could suggest muscle relaxant properties.”

Pain Relief: The analgesic (pain-relieving) properties of CBG are said to surpass those of THC.

Anti-Cancer: In one study Cannabigerol was shown to be the second-most effective phytocannabinoid against breast cancer after CBD. It is also thought to be a potent agonist for “possible application in prostate cancer.”

Antidepressant: Numerous studies suggest that CBG contains antidepressant properties.

Antifungal: Research shows that CBG is powerful agent against MRSA. This is a powerful bacterium that is more difficult to treat than staph infections.

As the medical properties of this compound are validated, we believe it will become more mainstream and accessible. Regardless, for the time being, there are many that can already take advantage of what the studies from the medical community have already affirmed.
